Ideas and inspiration

After we known Marc and his disability, we looked for information of the most common products that use in the bathroom people who are in wheelchairs with the purpose to find some ideas for the project.

Marc situation

The last Thursday 11/06/2016 the group met with Marc in his house to know his real situation.
He was explaining his problem in the bathroom. His situation is really difficult because his bathroom is old and now he is 63 years old and he has to make a great effort to shower every day.

The bath is so small and is very difficult to enter on and to leave it, the seat is to low and he has to make a lot of effort.

We have to help him making a product for reduce the effort that he has to do  every time he takes a shower.

But he will remodel his bathroom soon to make it easier to shower though we have to do a product for the old bathroom.

Persona

Marc deTremmerie is a person who's sitting  in a wheelchair. He is 63 years old and retired.
He was working as a teacher in the university of Vives (Kortrijk).

Marc is quite independent and lives with his wife. The house where he is living is adepted to his restriction but on a subtle way. However, the bathroom is old and has problem with taking a shower. Our responsibility is to design a product to help him to make it easier.

Situation

The overall aim is to improve quality of life through engagement with meaningfull occupations.

In this case:

It is now fashionable that we install a shower in our bathroom.
With a small step of about 2 cm or more preferably with only a sloping floor that you can not slip and a sufficient discharge someone who is less mobile already a lot easier in the shower. Who does not (sufficiently) can stand up can use a folding chair attached to the wall, a shower wheelchair or other chair in the shower. It is important that the showering person is sufficiently fixated on the seat for people with reduced mobility often have less balance and soap and water often make the seat gladdig.

The wheelchair user who uses a wheelchair shower or the transfer has to do his normal wheelchair to the seat can do so without difficulty as long as there is sufficient room for maneuver. When he / she comes out of the shower there is a problem. The shower wheelchair must come out of the shower or the ordinary wheelchair must be placed in the wet shower to allow the transfer of the seat to the wheelchair. Result: all the bathroom and part of the house will be wet from the wet spores that cause the wheelchair.
